One thing I’ve never been super great at is balance… Not on a beam and definitely not in life. You can ask anyone close to me, and they will quickly tell you that I am a world-class procrastinator, which often leads to many stressful situations. People often say that big life changes, like getting married, make you grow up. Well, I wouldn’t say that I woke up on the morning of March 17, 2012 as the world’s most responsible adult, but being a new wife has definitely showed me many areas where I can develop a little more balance. I recently stumbled upon the inspirational Emily Ley, who is a talented designer, and I love, love, LOVE this piece of work she’s created:

Obviously, I need to get my little procrastination problem under control… Somewhere in an office, Aaron is screaming, “AMEN!” But I’ve also realized that I don’t need to say YES to everything, and this will greatly help me maintain a life of balance. This week, I’m filtering through my business, daily life, and routines to figure out what I need to say “NO” to I can start saying “YES” to the things that matter most to me. What I’ve come up with so far:

-Saying no to sweets during the week, so I can have a healthier lifestyle… And binge on the weekends.
-Saying no to randomly eating out, so we can say yes to having a nice date night once a week.
-Saying no to newborn/children shoots, so I can say yes to focusing on families, couples, and seniors.
-Saying no to reading just one more chapter of Harry Potter, so I can say yes to feeling refreshed when I wake up in the morning.
-Saying no to a couple who would be a better fit for a different photographer, so I can say yes to a bride and groom who fit my style and mesh with my personality.
-Saying no to another 20 minutes of Say Yes to the Dress, so I can say yes to taking Noley on a walk.
-Saying no to making a mental to do list and actually use my planner, so I can say yes to accomplishing all my tasks for the day.
-Saying no to emailing, blogging, editing, etc, past 5pm, so I can say yes to spending quality time with Aaron when he’s home from work.
-Saying no to traveling more than a few weekends a year for weddings, so I can say yes to maintaining my wifely duties at home.

Of course, saying “no” is so much easier said than done, but I really feel that if I am able to hone in on what’s most important, it will help me develop into a better person, wife, and photographer. I know life is NOT all about me and what I want, but I also know that creating a better balance will positively effect my husband, clients, friends, family, and even Noley. :)

What are some things you’ve learned to say “no” to? Do you have any practical tips on achieving this balance?

Oh, how I love this family! We are blessed to know the Francis family through our church (shocker, right?), where Jennifer serves as the Director of Women’s Ministry. It’s been awesome getting to know them over the past year. She & Josh are some of the most hilarious and laid back people we’ve met here… The proof is in the fact that Josh dressed up as Cousin Eddie for a Christmas party last month. As someone who had never before seen Christmas Vacation, it was quite shocking. Haha! When Jennifer told me that she & Josh needed family pictures taken this fall, I knew their session would be memorable because of their two little ones, Brody & Jillian. Let me just tell you… These kids have enough personality for about 10 kids, and I LOVE it. They had me cracking up our entire session, and you’ll see why in this post…

They are so adorable! People often ask me what to wear for their session… The Francis’ outfits are a perfect example of coordinated but not too matchy-matchy!

This little guy is seriously a trip!

Love it. :)

Can’t. Handle. The. Cuteness!
Fun Fact: Jillian also goes by Kiki and Rosy. Told ya’ll! Personality!

Two things:
1. This is what happiness looks like.
2. Jennifer has mastered the perfect southern hair. :)

That one on the left just makes me laugh uncontrollably.

Yay married pictures! :)
Josh, thanks for leaving your Cousin Eddie robe at home.

Hope ya’ll have a great Wednesday! :)

Okay, so this isn’t my “new” family as the post suggests… The Crawfords have actually been my family for over 10 months now. Seriously, unbelievable. Am I really married??? Am I mature enough for this??? Aaron and I were able to take a little vacation to Florida after Christmas and were able to see BOTH of our families, which was such a blessing. This is the part where all of you Arkansas residents can feel a little jealous because we spent our time with Aaron’s family at the beach. Yep, it was pretty much awesome. I am so thankful for awesome in-laws and another brother and sister! We took some pictures on the beach while we were there, and I decided to share them since one of my resolutions was to take and share more personal pictures. I would like to give a big thanks to the trusty tripod and remote.

They LOVE it when I make them fake laugh. :)

Matthew’s girlfriend Jourdan was able to join us at the beach, so I snapped a few of the lovebirds. :)

Our beautiful little sister, Calise…

The awesome in-laws.
And in case you were wondering what Aaron will look like in 25 years, here it is. :)

Apparently, having to use a remote also means I don’t know what to do with my arms.

Ohhhh, my husband.

Brotherly love… Is sometimes a little weird.

Just us. :)

Love this man with my whole heart.

Happy Tuesday!
