I love our apartment. It’s bright, fairly spacious, and just perfect for us in this season of our lives. I’ve tried to make it homey without going overboard on decorations and furniture, which doesn’t take much in a small apartment. I’m always changing things around because I love seeing different looks from time to time. It definitely helps me to not get tired of our space! Since I moved in, there was one thing I just couldn’t seem to get right for the life of me: the decorations for our breakfast bar. The thing about this bar is that we don’t actually sit at it because our barstools are about a foot too short for it’s height. I’ll even admit that it’s quite comical to see me sitting there because the bar comes all the way up to my shoulders, making me look even shorter than I already am. Because we don’t use the bar, it’s just this big empty space that needed something, but for almost a year, I couldn’t find what I was looking for…. Talk about frustrating. I had an exact picture in my mind of what I wanted, and while many things came CLOSE to my vision, nothing was close enough to work.

One day, I found a tutorial on Pinterest for the exact wooden box that I wanted to make, including dimensions, style, everything! Aaron was so excited to have another project added to his honey-do list. :) That next day, I was walking through Jo-Ann Fabric’s with my mom, and I found almost the EXACT box that I had planned on Aaron making me from scratch. What’s even better is that the box was HALF the price than the supplies alone would have cost us to buy, and it was already built! Major win! All that was left to do was for me to stain it with a simple DIY stain I’ve used in the past, and it would be ready to go! I really love how it turned out, but I love even more than we (Aaron) didn’t have to make it. :) And a quick side note… We’re in the market for an electric hand saw. Nothing super fancy, but one that will get the basics done. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I love how easy & cheap this stain is, but it will leave your house smelling like rotten pennies & vinegar for days!

During…

The result!

The box ended up being a little deeper than we hoped, so we had to improvise with some DVDs. :)

At home on the breakfast bar!

Happy Wednesday!

Erin Fetterhoff - So cute! I’ve been wanting to try that stain, but I wasn’t sure if it was worth a try or not… You never know with Pinterest! I love it though, and now I’m going to have to try it! :)ReplyCancel

Like I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I spent this weekend in North Carolina visiting a sweet college friend whose wedding I’m shooting in June! Madison and I have known each other since our freshman year at Liberty, and it was so awesome to be reunited with her this weekend. My first time visiting her home in Wilson, NC was almost 5 years ago, and that’s when I was first introduced to TRUE southern hospitality and the craziness that is the North Carolina State Fair. Madison & Andrew’s wedding is going to be the epitome of southern, and I couldn’t be more excited. Not only was I able to shoot their engagement session this weekend, but I was also able to shoot her bridal session. OH MY WORD, y’all. I am going to DIE while waiting to post them! Just know this, she is going to be a STUNNING bride! Andrew, brace yourself. :)

It is so awesome to see one of my greatest friends find a godly man who leads her, laughs with her, and has promised to weather the storms of life with her. Madison and Andrew, thanks for being such great friends and being an absolute dream to shoot! Can’t wait until June!!!! :)

Big shout out to North Carolina for being so gorgeous!

Y’all just need to stop.

This one is my absolute favorite from our session.

Andrew has won over her heart… His musical abilities definitely didn’t hurt that process. :)

They wanted to incorporate Andrew’s truck, and I love how the pictures turned out!

Sunrise sessions are so ideal because the lighting is always incredible, and you don’t have to deal with the heat of the afternoon. We got a little bit of a late start that morning (whoopsies), and the sun was much higher in the sky than I’d hoped when we switched locations. A lot of photographers like shooting when it’s cloudy because it eliminates the challenge of working with the sun, but I am not one of those photographers. I think the cheeriness that sunshine brings is SO worth having to be more diligent in my shooting. However, I was so relieved when clouds started to roll in as we pulled into downtown Wilson. We were able to shoot for much longer because of the clouds, and the bright colors and personality of the location totally made up for our lack of sun!

Precious.

Ladies, THIS is why you need to consider wearing fake lashes for your session!

Gosh, I can’t wait till y’all get married!

Seriously, y’all? So hott. :)

Another one of my favorites!

I had to include this one because Madison’s smirk is just awesome. :)

I’d love to hear your favorites!

Happy Tuesday! :)

How is possible to feel so refreshed and so exhausted at the same time? I was able to spend the weekend with two great friends from Liberty while visiting North Carolina, and it was just what I needed before jumping into the craziness that will be my life for the next 3 months. Hanging out with Madison & Crimson made me reminiscent of my college years, and while I wouldn’t trade my life now for anything, I definitely miss those awesome years! Some of the highlights include:

-Having my wardrobe tripled because we were always sharing and borrowing each other’s clothes.
-Making midnight runs to Sheetz to satisfy our cravings for their amazing cheese quesadillas.
-Always having another girl on the hall to talk to about the good, bad, and ugly.
-Taking trips to the Dollar Theatre so we didn’t have to waste too much money on really corny chick-flicks.
-Eating breakfast for dinner as a group because we were too lazy to walk all the way across campus to the cafeteria.
-Studying the Word of God together and praying for each other.
-Seeing so many friends meet, begin dating, get engaged to, and eventually marry their amazing spouses.
-Just being really ridiculous ALL THE TIME. (It’s really a wonder that we found said spouses.)

I could go on and on and on about the amazing times I had with such great friends in college, and I am so thankful that I was blessed enough to spend four years making memories at LU. Here’s a picture from the weekend…

I know, super awesome iPhone quality. Madison is getting married in a little more than two months, and I get the privilege of shooting she & Andrew’s wedding! Tomorrow, I’ll be sharing their engagement session on the blog, but I’ll leave you with a little peek today!

Happy Monday! :)
